IoT Implementation of Water Purifier Filter Life Monitoring
Filters are the core consumable of water purifiers; life monitoring directly affects water quality and user experience. Traditional purifiers estimate filter life manually-unknown when expired, wasteful when replaced early. IoT makes filter life visible in real time with precise expiry alerts. This article explains the IoT implementation of filter life monitoring based on YOOAI's Water IoT Solution. See Technical Architecture.
1. Filter Life Calculation Model
Filter life is not a single time dimension but a combined calculation:
- Water production: Cumulative production reaching the filter's rated capacity exhausts life
- Time: Filters have a shelf life even unused (e.g., 12 months)
- Water quality: Higher raw water TDS means greater filter load and shorter life
The system uses "production + time," whichever comes first, to calculate remaining life percentage.
2. IoT Monitoring Implementation
1. Data Collection
Devices report production, usage time, and TDS to the cloud in real time via the 4G Comm Board.
2. Life Calculation
The cloud calculates each filter's remaining life in real time per the model, syncing to the user mini-program and maintenance backend. See Full-Lifecycle Device Management.
3. Alert Mechanism
- Remaining life <= 20%: Yellow warning
- Remaining life <= 0: Expiry alert, reminder to replace
- Idle no-production (15 days): Drying warning
Alerts push to the user mini-program and maintenance backend, linkable to maintenance work orders for replacement dispatch.
3. Data Applications
1. User Side
Users view each filter's life and TDS in the mini-program; one-tap replacement ordering on expiry boosts repurchase.
2. Maintenance Side
Service providers view filter health across their territory via the Data Dashboard, planning inventory and on-site replacement by expiry alerts-lowering inventory and idle trips.
3. Brand Side
Brands analyze filter life distribution and replacement frequency to optimize filter specs and repurchase operations.
4. Value of IoT Monitoring
- Precise visible filter life, avoiding expiry or waste
- Proactive expiry alerts, ensuring quality and driving repurchase
- Maintenance planned by alerts, lower inventory and on-site cost
- Data-driven filter product and operations optimization
Filter life monitoring is a typical water IoT application, achieving filter health management via "data collection + life algorithm + alert linkage." YOOAI's Water IoT Solution implements this capability. For technical details, see Technical Architecture or contact us.
